So how did it start?
Well, I started watching near the start of the 1st season on CHCH 11 from
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, now just called CH.
Unlike my previous thoughts, it turns out that FH was tested in malls around the country before it was put on the air.
There were some pilots produced. The format was the same to the series,
except for a few things:
1. Losing a stunt got you consolation points depending on your score:
i.e. 2 balls in your bucket, 2 points scored. So it the score after the
first stunt might end up as 27-25.
2. In the Grand Prix Race, winning was worth 50 points (compared to 25
in the series).
3. In the Fun House, you could grab as many tags as you wanted to and
then come and tag your partner.
4. According to
Matt Kaiser's
Pilots Page, the power prize was
determined by sticking each individual tag in the podium.
5. Also, in a very early on pilot, there were much bigger prizes. There is a picture that exists that shows two contestants winning $25,000! Also in early pilots there was different rooms, such as "Wrong Way street" (a wrong way conveyor belt), and other rooms, some of which I believe are pictures on the board for the home game.
More Fun Facts:
Actual rundates for Fun House:
Fun House: Sept. 11, 1988 - Sept. 9, 1990 (Syndication, weekdays)
Fox's Fun House: Sept. 10, 1990 - April? 1991 (Fox, weekdays,
later weekends).
And you're wondering who was on the first episode? Well, it was an all-star
special, which had kiddie celebs pairing up with everyday contestants, in
a one hour special (2 games back to back).
We're our own creation... yup...: Fun House, although seen as a DD knockoff, was apparently tested in malls before it moved onto TV.
FH Network 30:After a successful 2 year run in syndie land, FH moved
to Fox and became (unofficially) "Fox's Fun House". Some things to
note in the new version.
1. It's got more of a nighttime look.
2. Tiny doesn't announce anymore - it's MC Mike.
3. While you still got 25 points for the question right, you also got
to pie your opponent - this is probably due to CMH's Finals Round.
4. The tokens in the grand prix race are square (?!?!?!)
5. In the Fun House, you have to go down the water slide to start, and
time doesn't begin until you hit the bottom. Did we mention that you start
at the top?
6. Also in the Fun House, a couple of other things: There's a glop
clock, and if you get it, you get an extra 15 seconds tagged on at the end.
There's a mystery cash tag which is worth more than the others.
We are the champions:Near the end of the syndication run, FH held a
tourney of champs, with 2 new champs coming each day for a week. All I
remember was the stunt format: One stunt was something that the gold team
had played before, one that the red team had, and one that was totally new.
